Building Teachers’ Capacity for Success: A Collaborative Approach for Coaches and School Leaders

(August 2010 Member Book)

Pete Hall

Synopsis

When 2004 Outstanding Young Educator Award winner Pete Hall took the helm at Anderson Elementary in Reno, Nev., the school was struggling with dismal academic achievement rates. By focusing school improvement on teacher quality, Anderson has begun the continuous process of turning itself around. Hall, along with Anderson instructional coach Alisa Simeral, detail how administrators and coaches can work together to build on teachers’ strengths, and use professional reflection to guide the improvement process.

This interview was conducted by ASCD project manager and staff writer Laura Varlas.
