About the Author
JOHN G. GABRIEL has taught in three different school systems as an English teacher; after six years of teaching, he was hired as the English department chair at Falls Church High School in Fairfax County, Virginia. After two years of his dynamic and creative leadership, the English department achieved such dramatic gains on high-stakes tests that it soared to parity with departments at high-achieving schools in the area.
