JAN BURGESS spent 24 years in school administration, primarily as an elementary and middle school principal, following eight years as a teacher and counselor. Her work with teacher leaders over those years formed the crux of her understanding of shared leadership as the model for creating and maintaining outstanding learning environments for students.

DONNA BATES has more than 30 years of elementary- and middle-level teaching experience. She has served as an elementary team leader, a middle-level curriculum leader, and a teacher association president. She has also been a member and leader of a number of district and state committees.
