ASCD Affiliates Exchange Educational Practices and Influence Education Policy

ASCD's mission is to develop programs, products, and services essential to the way educators learn, teach, and lead. ASCD's affiliates play a vital role in accomplishing this mission at local levels.

What are ASCD affiliates?

Located in the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, and East Asia, ASCD affiliates are separate education organizations that work collaboratively as part of the ASCD community to foster common values and goals. Affiliates influence education policy and provide a forum for the exchange of quality educational practices.

I am already an ASCD member. Does that mean I am also a member of an affiliate?

Membership in ASCD and its affiliates is separate. You can belong to ASCD; you can belong to an affiliate; or you can belong to both. Each affiliate is autonomous, yet all the affiliates work within a common framework to achieve common educational goals.

Why should I belong to my local affiliate?

Affiliate involvement will give you the chance to pursue professional interests as well as shape education at the local level. Affiliate members have many opportunities to develop leadership skills and to participate in activities designed to meet their specific needs.

Involvement at the affiliate level often leads to leadership at the international level of ASCD. Affiliate members are an integral part of the governance of ASCD. Affiliate presidents serve on the ASCD Board of Directors and are often selected for advisory committees and panels. Affiliate members help to shape the future of education for children everywhere.
