Revolutionizing the Way We Learn
For 70 years, ASCD has been a global leader in delivering a vast array of programs, products, and services for educators. And throughout our history, we have engaged in a traditional approach to strategic planning focusing on long-term goals or key drivers over a three- to five-year period.
Now, our rapidly changing world demands a different approach to strategic planning that embraces the changes of the 21st century. In early 2011, we identified a new point on the horizon, a futuring statement that guides our future direction.
This statement, “revolutionizing the way we learn,” expresses that vision and reaffirms our purpose which is to provide practices and tools that facilitate learning.
Three-Pillared Strategic Framework
In place of the traditional strategic plans of the past, we now operate under a strategic framework that focuses on three pillars:
- our relationships,
- innovation and design, and
- process and practice.
These pillars will be the foundation of our organization as we build our future over the next 1,000 days. To remain agile and responsive to the needs of educators in the field, our long-term plan is broken down into 100-day plans. These shorter term plans ensure that we can respond quickly to changes while we press forward with our legislative agenda, promote a whole child education, revitalize our membership services, and enhance our professional development offerings.
The ASCD Story is a critical element of the work to revolutionize the way we learn, because it brings to life the need for a worldwide culture change in education. It brings meaning to the revolution and explains why we must make these changes now.
