L.A. Times' Homeroom

Ben Licciardi

In an effort to give Southern Californians an inside look into public education, the Los Angeles Times has recently started a new blog called Homeroom. Written by two Teach for America teachers and a graduating senior in high school, this group blog explores everything from the trials and tribulations of college applications to the motivations behind plagiarism. The posts are thoughtful and well-written, but the real action is in the comments where fellow teachers, parents, and other community members offer candid and spirited responses to the entries. For example, a post by teacher Lance Chapman sparked an especially charged discussion on newbie idealism and the harsh realities of educational inequity.
