Give Students a Voice
Why and How We Must Listen
Sadly, we are all familiar with adults who have poor listening skills. That's why we must help our children develop strong listening skills. In his article, Jonathan Erwin helps educators recognize why we don't listen to students and then details several ways we can, in his words, "give students a voice."
His ideas include working with schools to create a touchstone, holding effective and productive class meetings, and getting input from students regarding curriculum and assessment.
For each method, Erwin gives specific examples of what works, based on his own experience, and offers clear instruction on how to raise a generation of powerful listeners.
