ASCD Internship Opportunity
Paid Internships for Qualified Journalism & Communication Students
Dear Prospective Intern,
ASCD (formerly the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan membership organization that develops programs, products, and services to help K–12 educators learn, teach, and lead. Each year ASCD hosts a conference that attracts educators from around the world who seek to learn more about professional development best practices that they can implement at the district, school, and classroom levels.
ASCD’s 2012 Annual Conference will be held March 24–26 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia, Pa., and we have created three internships for area students interested in writing for our daily conference newspaper and blog.
Interns will be required to be work on-site at the conference in the Pennsylvania Convention Center, Saturday, March 24, through Monday, March 26. We will hold an orientation session the afternoon of Friday, March 23.
Each intern's time will be divided between attending sessions and writing for ASCD's print and online newspaper. Duties will include covering conference sessions and translating notes into articles for the Conference Daily newspaper or a blog posting.
ASCD will offer each intern a $500 stipend to be paid at the conclusion of the conference; articles written by interns will appear with their bylines, so they will also receive valuable writing samples to add to their professional portfolios. Candidates will be required to provide their own daily transportation to and from the convention center.
Interested students should send the following to Willona Sloan, Managing Editor, Conference Daily, at wsloan@ascd.org by February 24, 2012:
- A copy of their resume,
- A writing sample, and
- A brief statement of how this experience would further their education goals.
Sincerely,
Willona Sloan • Managing Editor, Conference Daily
