Lilia Vreland is a first-year teacher working with 6th graders at a school in the Bronx. "When everything is going perfectly in a class, I can't think of a better job in the world," she says. "But when it's not going well, it's probably the most exhausting, frustrating thing I've ever done." The Teaching Channel's New Teacher Survival Guide video aims to eliminate some of the frustration that new teachers face when entering their classrooms. The video follows Vreland and other new teachers, exploring the challenges they face in areas like classroom management or differentiated instruction. Experts, mentors, and coaches consult with the new teachers and provide tips and strategies that are applicable and helpful to new teachers everywhere.

EL’s experienced team of writers and editors produces Educational Leadership magazine, an award-winning publication that reaches hundreds of thousands of K-12 educators and leaders each year. Our work directly supports the mission of ASCD: To empower educators to achieve excellence in learning, teaching, and leading so that every child is healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged.
