Answers to Members' Questions

ASCD has changed the name of the Comprehensive category of membership to Select membership. This Web page is here to help answer questions related to this change and clear up any confusion ASCD members may experience related to the change. Your feedback and comments are always welcome and can be e-mailed to us.

 

Q: Why was the name changed?

A: Over the years, ASCD has received feedback from members, ASCD Affiliate leaders, and members of the ASCD Board related to the labeling of this category as "Comprehensive." Many assumed, based on the word "comprehensive," that the category was an all-inclusive option for receiving member benefits and resources. In addition, external organizations within the education community use the "comprehensive" label to identify their membership categories. The category name was changed to provide a more descriptive representation of this category.

Q: Did the member benefits change in this category?

A: No. Members have found this category to be extremely valuable in meeting their needs as an educational leader in the classroom, the school, and beyond. Surveys of ASCD members have revealed that this is our most popular category of membership and members enjoy receiving the five member books selected by ASCD editors from the numerous ASCD books published each year. ASCD Select members will continue to receive:

  • A subscription to Educational Leadership magazine (8 issues per year)
  • A subscription to Education Update newsletter (12 issues per year)
  • Five (5) newly published member books selected by ASCD editors delivered throughout the year.
  • Access to articles and member books in the ASCD Online Library
  • Member pricing on ASCD purchases and event registrations
  • The option to receive the ASCD Express e-newsletter
  • Voting privileges as an official member of ASCD

 

 

 

Q: Did the dues rate change?

A: No. The dues rate for the Select membership category is currently US$89. The introductory dues rate of US$79 is often offered to new members to encourage them to join the Association for the first time.

Q: As an ASCD Select member, what other changes should I expect to see?

A: Over the coming months the Select name will begin to appear in membership materials and benefits. New membership cards are being sent to all active Select (Comprehensive) members. Many of the previous membership materials and benefits have the Comprehensive label permanently imprinted in them, but all online references to Comprehensive membership will be changed to reflect the new Select label. Members will need to keep in mind that any reference to Comprehensive membership is synonymous with Select membership from now on.
