ASCD Announces Complete Schedule for 2013 Virtual Conference

Alexandria, VA (12/17/2012)—ASCD, the global leader in providing programs, products, and services that empower educators to support the success of each learner, announces the complete schedule for the association’s 2013 Virtual Conference. The 2013 Virtual Conference will run concurrent with ASCD’s 68th Annual Conference and Exhibit Show March 16–18, in Chicago, Ill.

For the second year, ASCD will provide online participants a full virtual conference experience with live streams of more than 20 exciting conference sessions. Presenters include

  • Freeman A. Hrabowski III, president of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and one of Time Magazine’s “100 Most Influential People in the World”, who will share his thoughts, strategies, and best practices for educating today’s students.
  • Experts Michael Fullan and Andy Hargreaves will explore how to get higher returns from teachers and teaching by investing in the professional capital of the education profession.
  • Retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, who will offer insight into being the first woman to serve on the Supreme Court, her passion for restoring civic learning in the United States, and why civic education is more important than ever.
  • ASCD author Heidi Hayes Jacobs, who will discuss how integrating Common Core State Standards into your school can become an engaging opportunity for upgrading teaching and learning for students and for collaborative inquiry for faculty.

A full list of presenters and sessions can be found on the virtual conference website.

Participants in the 2013 Virtual Conference will be able to access all session handouts and resources online, participate in question-and-answer sessions with presenters along with the live audiences, and watch interviews with special guests conducted by the association’s on-air hosts. To facilitate extended learning, virtual attendees will also have access to the archived live-stream conference sessions until September 30, 2013 unless otherwise noted.

“ASCD’s 2013 Virtual Conference is another example of the association’s commitment to bringing professional development to educators where they are, when they need it,” said ASCD Executive Director and CEO Dr. Gene R. Carter. “We invite educators worldwide to participate in this rewarding and memorable professional development opportunity that will help translate the greatest ideas from the finest minds in education into practice.”

Participants can register by visiting the virtual conference’s registration website. Educators wishing to attend ASCD’s 68th Annual Conference and Exhibit Show in person can register by visiting the 2013 Annual Conference registration page. In-person attendees will also have complimentary access to the Virtual Conference for six months. The 2013 Annual Conference also offers attendees many opportunities to build their personal networks.
On the evening of Friday, March 15, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. central time, attendees can catch up with friends old and new at the Annual Conference and Exhibit Show’s Welcome Reception in McCormick Place West. On Saturday evening, March 16, the association will host its second annual ASCD Tweet Up, sponsored by Herff Jones Nystrom. Located at the Chicago blues staple Buddy Guy’s Legends from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m. central time, this event brings together educators both new to and experienced with social media for professional development in a fun and engaging environment. The official Twitter hashtag of ASCD's 2013 Annual Conference is #ASCD13.
