ASCD Appoints Richard S. Papale Publisher
Alexandria, VA (09/18/2012)—ASCD, the global leader in providing programs, products, and services that empower educators to support the success of each learner, has appointed Richard S. Papale as publisher. In his new role, Papale oversees the operations of multiple business units within the association, including Content Acquisitions, Content Development, Book Editing and Production, and Newsletters and Special Publications. In addition, Papale oversees the development, editing, and distribution of Educational Leadership, the association’s flagship publication.

Carter. "Richard will continue that tradition while injecting innovative ideas and solutions into our publishing operations that will ensure ASCD’s position as the leading provider of high-quality professional development content far into the future."
As a publisher with more than 20 years of international print and e-media publishing experience, Papale brings a strong background in acquisitions, editorial product, and strategic content development and delivery to ASCD. Papale’s experience includes several years in trade publishing at Rizzoli/New York and Burton-Skira and nearly 10 years in trade, professional, and academic association publishing at the American Automobile Association and the National Association for Printing Leadership. He also served as a part-time adjunct instructor at Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences for five years.
Papale’s wide range of experience also includes senior management and strategic content, product, and business development consulting. As a consultant, Papale has served leading companies such as Travelocity and Johnson Controls Inc. His rich background and varied experience brings content leveraging and capitalization, operations and product development management, international licensing, and marketing and sales knowledge to the his new position at ASCD.
As ASCD’s new publisher, Papale will primarily be responsible for facilitating content acquisition for the association’s award-winning print, digital, and e-publications, including magazines; books; member-benefit newsletters; and other programs, products, and services. Papale will also manage the development and delivery of ASCD’s member-valued content, maintaining a strategic focus on current publishing trends and best practices for the association.
