Alexandria, VA (10/29/2013)—ASCD has announced two new global institutes on how to use Understanding by Design® to reach crucial learning goals. The institutes will be held in Bangkok, Thailand, the first on January 28–29, 2014, and the second on January 30, 2014.
Jay McTighe, cocreator of the UbD® framework and renowned education author, will lead both institutes. Experienced education consultant Elizabeth Rossini will also present at the two-day institute.
The UbD framework offers a planning process and structure to guide curriculum, assessment, and instruction. It presents a three-stage backward design process for curriculum planning and includes a template and set of design tools that embody the process.

About the Presenters
Jay McTighe leads ASCD's Understanding by Design cadre and brings a wealth of experience developed during a rich and varied career in education. Jay is an accomplished author, having coauthored 12 books, including the best-selling Understanding by Design series with Grant Wiggins. Jay has an extensive background in professional development and has made presentations in 47 states within the United States, in 7 Canadian provinces, and internationally in 28 countries on 6 continents.
Elizabeth Rossini is a member of ASCD's Understanding by Design cadre and an education consultant who has been working nationally and internationally in the areas of curriculum, assessment, and instruction. Rossini is currently the director of curriculum and professional learning for the International School of Bangkok, Thailand.
