New Acquisitions Editors Support ASCD’s Growing Publishing Unit

Alexandria, VA (05/23/2013)—ASCD, the global leader in providing programs, products, and services that empower educators to support the success of each learner, welcomes two new staff members to the association. Julie Scheina and Allison Scott were recently appointed acquisitions editors for the association, which produces the award-winning monthly magazine Educational Leadership, more than 40 books a year, and a variety of valuable newsletters and other print and online publications.

Julie ScheinaJulie Scheina, in her new role as acquisitions editor, acquires and develops content for ASCD's print and digital products, including books and short-form projects. Scheina is a graduate of the College of William and Mary, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and marketing, and New York University’s Summer Publishing Institute. She previously served as a senior editor at Little, Brown Books for Young Readers. There she acquired and edited a variety of acclaimed and best-selling titles for K–12 readers, such as the #1 New York Times best-selling Beautiful Creatures novels by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl; The Lucy Variations by Sara Zarr; and the Imaginary Veterinary series by Suzanne Selfors and illustrated by Dan Santat. Prior to that role, Scheina interned at The Spectator magazine in London, England, and ran summer literacy programs for students in grades K–6.

Allison ScottNew Acquisitions Editor Allison Scott also acquires and develops content for ASCD's publishing unit. Scott received her master's degree in English literature from Newcastle University. Previously, she served as an associate editor at Corwin, evaluating content for acquisition and developing projects to meet the needs of the K–12 market. Her projects covered an array of topics, including STEM, special education, teaching methods, professional development, and educational technology. She has also worked with higher education publishers, including Pearson and Peter Lang, as a freelance developmental editor.

"We are pleased to welcome Julie and Allison to our team," said ASCD Publisher Richard Papale. "Both bring valuable publishing and editing experience that supports the association's efforts to provide educators worldwide with the professional development resources they need to learn, teach, and lead. We look forward to their contributions."
