New PD Online® Courses from ASCD Support Educators Implementing Common Core State Standards
Alexandria, VA (1/5/2012)—ASCD, the global leader in providing programs, products, and services that empower educators to support the success of each learner, announces the release of seven new PD Online® courses for educators integrating Common Core State Standards into classroom instruction.
Since 1996, ASCD has provided innovative and award-winning PD Online courses to educators across the world. The PD Online series incorporates multimedia and high-quality digital content that fits the needs of almost any type and size of learning group—ranging from individual learners to entire districts and university programs. With the PD Online series, districts and schools are able to personalize and monitor professional development for individual educators and groups looking to earn college course or professional development credits.
In May 2010, ASCD became an endorsing partner of the Common Core State Standards Initiative. Since then, the association has developed a number of important resources for educators that are designed to ease the implementation of the new standards.
Three of the new PD Online courses support implementation of the new math standards:
Each course is grade-range specific and provides actionable strategies and tactics that help educators incorporate the new standards into classroom instruction.
In addition, four more subject-based courses focus on supporting educators in integrating the new literacy standards into science, history/social studies, English language arts, and mathematics lessons:
"These seven new PD Online courses are part of ASCD's broader, ongoing effort to support educators nationwide as they implement the new Common Core State Standards," said ASCD Executive Director and CEO Gene R. Carter. "Although new standards are important, it takes effective professional development to bring them to life and make them relevant to students and educators. We are excited to provide these new PD Online courses to educators, and look forward to offering additional resources to aid educators in integrating the new standards in the future."
