ASCD Launches Web Site Redesign
Alexandria, VA (10/31/08)—The Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) launched the first phase of its comprehensive Web site redesign today. The redesign features easier browsing, improved usability, and enhanced interactivity for users.
"ASCD's Web site redesign is part of our mission to continually meet the needs of our members and the broader education community," said ASCD Executive Director Gene Carter. "Our goal is to develop a rich, comprehensive, easy-to-use Web site that functions as an online social network of educators and helps to advance ASCD initiatives."
Phase I of ASCD's Web site redesign includes:
- A new look and feel. More than a dozen main landing pages across the Web site have been updated. A wider screen display, additional visual elements, and less promotional text make browsing easier.
- Improved search functionality and member login. Search results are returned with better accuracy and a simplified display. A streamlined login allows ASCD members to remain logged in when visiting various areas of the site.
- More multimedia. New video content provides brief overviews of ASCD programs, products, and services. A monthly podcast series, "The Whole Child Podcast: Changing the Conversation About Education," which debuted two weeks ago, informs listeners about education polices and practices that ensure all children are healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged.
- Improved interactivity. Over the next several weeks, users will be able to participate in online polls, comment on ASCD articles, and rate products in the online store.
During the next several months, ASCD will explore technologies such as chat software and video platforms to provide members and users with even more functionality and networking capabilities.
Beginning in 2009, Phase II of ASCD's Web site redesign will focus on developing an online social network of educators that will allow members and Web site visitors to create online profiles, share and post information, and form online groups based on specific shared interests and goals.
Users are encouraged to e-mail ASCD with comments and questions about the Web site redesign.
