ASCD and Heinle Announce Partnership for Teacher Training Publication

Partnership to Co-Brand and Distribute Dr. Marzano’s New Teacher Vocabulary Training Manual

BOSTON, April 15, 2009 – Heinle ELT, a leading provider of materials for English language teaching and learning throughout the world and part of Cengage Learning, today announced a partnership with ASCD, an educational leadership association, to publish the new teacher training manual from Dr. Robert Marzano, entitled Teaching Basic and Advanced Vocabulary.

The book provides K–12 educators with structured classroom instruction on how to use basic and advanced vocabulary terms that form the foundation of general literacy. This co-branded professional development manual will be distributed through ASCD’s extensive membership network, as well as Heinle's distribution channels.

As its title indicates, Teaching Basic and Advanced Vocabulary is focused on the framework for introducing basic terms—those words that are critical to understanding and using the English language—as well as advanced terms. More specifically, 2,845 basic terms and 5,162 advanced terms are organized into 420 semantic clusters, or groups of related terms. The book explains how a district, school, or individual teacher might use the semantic clusters in a whole-class approach to direct instruction that focuses on advanced vocabulary.
