Reshaping High Schools

High schools are at a tipping point, education reformers tell us, and we must make some changes to avert a crisis. Many students are dropping out of school before graduation, and many others are leaving school without the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in college or jobs. Our authors call for a number of policy changes, describe many reform models, and offer ways to improve high schools both systemically and incrementally.

Educational Leadership Receives Top Awards

SNAP Award

EXCEL AwardsThe Society of National Association Publications (SNAP) recently honored Educational Leadership's achievements. EL received a Silver EXCEL Award in the category of Magazines, Single Topic Issue (circulation greater than 100,000), for the December 2006/January 2007 issue on "Science in the Spotlight." More than 1,000 publications competed for the EXCEL Awards this year.

APEX Award

In the 19th Annual APEX Awards for Publication Excellence, Educational Leadership was recognized with an Award for Excellence in the category of Magazines & Journals for the September 2006 issue on "Teaching to Student Strengths."

AEP Award

Educational Leadership was also honored in the 2007 Excellence in Educational Publishing Awards Program, sponsored by the Association of Educational Publishers (AEP). EL was named as a finalist for the prestigious Periodical of the Year award.


About Educational Leadership

EL is ASCD's flagship publication. With a circulation of 175,000, EL is acknowledged throughout the world as an authoritative source of information about teaching and learning, new ideas and practices relevant to practicing educators, and the latest trends and issues affecting prekindergarten through higher education.

EL is published eight times each year, September through May, with a combined December/January issue. Copies are mailed to all ASCD members. Subscriptions and individual issues are also available for sale.
