Join an ASCD Affiliate
Located in most U.S. states, Canada, the Caribbean, and East Asia, ASCD affiliates are independent societies that work in partnership with ASCD to foster common values and goals. Affiliates influence local, national, and international policy and provide forums for the exchange of quality educational practice. Affiliate membership helps many educators become more involved in the larger ASCD community by providing opportunities for participation in Association governance and other leadership roles.

Become Involved in ASCD Governance
As of March 2003, ASCD has a new governance structure that consists of the ASCD Board of Directors and Leadership Council. The Leadership Council consists of representatives from the ASCD affiliates, the Board of Directors, and members-at-large. Many active ASCD members are selected to serve on committees or task forces or nominated as candidates for office. The key to both governance and committee selection is active involvement in the Association community through many of the opportunities for participation listed on this page.

Share Your Expertise with Others
Many ASCD members and constituents are knowledgeable about recognized and effective strategies relating to professional development, educational leadership, capacity building, and other aspects of teaching and learning. Each year, educators throughout the world have the opportunity to submit presentation proposals for sessions at the ASCD Annual Conference and Exhibit Show. ASCD's flagship journal Educational Leadership accepts articles and letters to the editor for consideration for publication. Guidelines, deadlines, and other submission information are available online.

Let Us Know of Your Interests and Concerns
Current active members can access this Web area to review and update their membership records, provide additional information, and indicate their interest in being considered for polling panels, elected office, and committees. For example, through its polling panels, ASCD periodically seeks advice from segments of its membership on topics such as future themes for Educational Leadership issues and to what degree educators rely on the Internet for professional development.
