Although ASCD does not provide academic credit directly, there are several universities and organizations that will provide academic credit for ASCD conferences and PD Online courses. Some schools provide credit only for conferences, while others provide credit for both conferences and PD Online courses. Some schools provide academic graduate credit, some provide only Continuing Education Units (CEUs), while others provide both types of credit.
Step 1: After researching the school you'd like to work with, check with your local school district or state education agency to determine whether they accept the accreditation of your chosen school.
Step 2: Register for both the ASCD course or conference as well as the university course. You will need to pay for the academic credit separately from the ASCD course or conference.
Step 3: Upon completion of the ASCD course, complete all follow-up work with the university. Then, you will be able to obtain your transcript.
Different schools have different processes. Be sure to check all policies carefully; some organizations require completion of follow-up work within two weeks of completing the conference or course.
Clock hours are not listed or awarded for the certificate of attendance at ASCD conferences: Empower, Conference on Teaching Excellence, and the Conference on Educational Leadership. Although ASCD does not provide clock hours for attending ASCD Empower, we offer badge scanning for all concurrent sessions (excluding general sessions) in order to provide you with a list of sessions you attended during the conference. Approximately one to two weeks after the conference, all registered attendees will receive an email with instructions to log in, view the sessions attended, and print an attendance certificate. You'll be able to access your session attendance records for two years.
