ASCD Presenter Bio

Craig Q. King

King is a passionate 3rd grade teacher at Whittaker Elementary School in Orangeburg, S.C., and was named 2007–08 District Teacher of the Year for Orangeburg Consolidated School District Five. King also serves as an adjunct professor with South Carolina State University's Honors Program teaching leadership development. 

King has received numerous awards and has been recognized for his teaching and volunteer work in South Carolina and the nation. In 2008, he received the Charlie Dickerson Community Service Award, which is given to one teacher in South Carolina for tireless service to the community.

Some of his volunteer work includes being a legislative ambassador for the American Cancer Society. As a Patient Advisory Board member for the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons of Rosemont, Ill., he advocates for individuals with musculoskeletal conditions and disabilities. He serves as a counselor at Camp Kemo, where he is a counselor for 5–6 year old boys with cancer. King is a proud 10-year cancer survivor who knows his purpose in life is to serve, educate, and inspire.

King is a 2004 and 2007 graduate of South Carolina State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and master's degree in rehabilitation counseling. He is a National Board–certified teacher, holding his certification as an early childhood generalist.
