Areas of Expertise
Andrew Miller is an expert facilitator of personalized, authentic professional learning. As an education consultant, he has worked with teachers in the United States, Canada, Australia, the Dominican Republic, and India. He is a member of ASCD's FIT TeachingTM Cadre and the leader of ASCD's ELA CCSS Virtual Learning Network. Miller is also an avid blogger and writer for a variety of organizations. He blogs regularly on student engagement, formative assessment, the Common Core State Standards, project-based learning, and technology integration. His writing is both practical and provocative and can be read regularly at ASCD and Edutopia.
Miller’s career in education spans many years and a variety of roles, from classroom teacher to instructional coach to education consultant. He has taught in a range of contexts, including a comprehensive high school and a STEM project-based learning (PBL) school, both in Washington State. He designed and implemented PBL projects in a 1:1 environment where he aligned technology to instructional practices in assessment, STEM, and 21st century skills. He then moved into a virtual teaching role where he leveraged blended learning best practices to engage students.
Miller has presented for ISTE, the National Council for Teachers of English, ASCD, the National Association of Multicultural Education, iNACOL's Virtual Schools Symposium, and the International Reading Association on topics including "Technology Integration to Meet the Needs of the CCSS," "Best Practices in Blended Professional Learning," "The Flipped Learning Toolkit for the Busy Teacher," "Teaching and Assessing the 4Cs," "Technology Integration for Formative Assessment," and "Project-Based Learning and the Common Core." He has also done many webinars on his areas of expertise.
Miller received his master's degree in teaching and his bachelor's degree in classics from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Wash., where he currently resides.
