The Facebook structure is largely based on who "likes" what, TripAdvisor is worth more than $2 billion because they ask people to share their opinions, and Netflix uses a "thumbs up or down" rating system to encourage more viewers to log their ratings. We now live in a world where feedback from the user is considered essential information, but how often are we asking students for input about their own education?
Based on the popular keynote speech by educator, author, and speaker Myron Dueck, Ask Them is a fun, humorous, fast-paced three-episode documentary series that explores how asking students for their input radically transforms both student learning—and the dynamic between teacher and student—in amazing ways.
In Ask Them, Dueck contends that it's essential to ask students about their opinions and experiences as they relate to learning. In each episode, he talks to people from all walks of life—education experts like John Hattie and Lorin Alexander, teachers, doctors, and scientists—to show how simply asking for input is making all the difference in their situations.
Most importantly, he talks to real students who make the case that they have much to share concerning their own understanding. It's time we listened very carefully.

In this episode, Myron takes a deeper dive into the power of questioning, experiencing so-called "desirable difficulties", and making mistakes by exploring four related topics: "There's no such thing as average"; "Jagged Intelligences"; "Multiple Pathways"; and "Context Matters". Featuring an interview with cognitive behavioral scientist, Celeste Kidd, on why she revisited the famous "Marshmallow Study" and her intriguing new findings.
In this episode, Myron looks into ways to structure more questioning and conversations in schools. He talks about strategies that have worked successfully in his school, and he tells the story of connecting to a student through an unconventional school assignment. Featuring interviews with the author of Visible Learning, John Hattie, about student voice, and author and editor, Lorin Anderson, about rethinking Bloom's Taxonomy.
