Everyone Included: Redefining Special Education and Student Support for Today's Teacher Videos

with Lee Ann Jung

Watch an excerpt

The "Least Restrictive Environment" provision of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act requires that all students be served in the general education classroom unless their goals cannot be successfully achieved in that environment.

But the spirit of that law goes far beyond just the location where services are delivered. With real inclusion, students with learning differences have full access to the general education curriculum and an equal opportunity to learn and grow alongside their grade-level peers. Fifteen years of scholarly research and on-the-ground work in schools convinced special education expert Lee Ann Jung that real inclusion is good for the entire learning community.

This five-part video series, Everyone Included: Redefining Special Education and Student Support for Today's Teacher takes viewers behind the scenes to see how real schools are supporting real students in inclusive classrooms. You'll sit in on a multi-disciplinary intervention planning meeting (IPM) and visit a number of classrooms to observe evidence-based core instruction in action, an innovative "push in" strategy, and several compelling co-teaching models. Topics include:

  • A Culture of Inclusion: What it looks like, how to create it, and the difference it can make for all students;
  • Response to Instruction and Intervention (RTI): A multi-tiered interdisciplinary strategy for improving core instruction and delivering interventions;
  • Goals and Growth Plans: A team approach to setting goals and monitoring student growth;
  • Accommodations and Modifications: How teachers adapt their instruction to support all students, and the critical difference between different kinds of adaptations;
  • Models of Co-Teaching: Six proven models of co-teaching that improve core instruction and promote student growth.

The ASCD videos in this series include closed captioning and study guides.
