Design Thinking for School Leaders - ASCDHow do I lead like a designer? What does it mean to lead from a place of empathy and human-centered design? In this webinar, explore the possibilities of weaving design thinking into your current leadership style. Although awareness of design thinking, a design methodology that provides a solution-based approach to solving problems, is growing among teachers, less attention has been paid to how leading like a designer can influence both the rate and the types of changes being made in schools.

What if next year you approached your leadership role less as a manager and more as a designer? What if you intentionally chose to practice the habits and mindsets of designers as you lead your school? Because designers view things differently, learning to lead like a designer can bring new perspective to your work. And that's a perspective that's desperately needed in schools embracing the challenges of modern schooling, such as shifting demographics, learning environments, and curriculum. The good news is that design-inspired leaders are made, not born, and you can shift your approach by practicing several key habits and mindsets of designers. Kami ThordarsonKami Thordarson has worked in many roles as a public educator—from classroom teacher to professional development and curriculum designer. Thordarson is involved with the design thinking movement in K12 education and, in her current role as an administrator, works to lead a district in integrating technology into learning and innovating practices that fully move students into more personalized experiences.
