Carol Ann Tomlinson, Ed.D, is Professor of Educational Leadership, Foundations, and Policy at the University of Virginia and was a public school teacher for 21 years. In 1974, she was Virginia's Teacher of Year. During Carol's time in public schools, she taught in many differentiated classrooms and directed district-level programs for struggling and advanced learners. Today, as co-director of the University of Virginia Summer Institute on Academic Diversity, she works with an international community of educators committed to academically responsive classrooms.
Carol has authored several books for ASCD, including How to Differentiate Instruction in Mixed-Ability Classrooms, The Differentiated Classroom, and (with Susan Allan) Leadership for Differentiating Schools and Classrooms. She consulted on and authored facilitator's guides for ASCD video staff development sets and developed ASCD's Professional Inquiry Kit on Differentiated Instruction.

Caroline Cunningham Eidson, Ph.D, is Director of Curriculum and Instruction at Triangle Day School in Durham, North Carolina, and an educational consultant focusing on the areas of curriculum development, curriculum differentiation, and the needs of advanced learners.
In Caroline's teaching career, she has taught children in differentiated classrooms in grades K-8 in both public and private schools. Prior to moving to North Carolina, she co-founded Peabody School, a school for intellectually advanced children in Charlottesville, Virginia, and served as both a lead teacher and an administrator. She has also taught in the University of Virginia's Northern Virginia Master's Program in Gifted Education, supervising degree candidates' teaching internships.
Caroline has provided workshops and certification training at the local, state, and national levels regarding curriculum differentiation and the characteristics and needs of gifted learners. She has several publications in the field of gifted education to her credit.
