About the Author
Kathleen Conn is an educator and public school administrator as well as a lawyer and member of the Pennsylvania Bar. Conn earned her Ph.D. in Physics/Biology at Bryn Mawr College, studying molecular dynamics with pulsed nuclear magnetic resonance techniques. She completed postdoctoral work in the cell biology of cancer metastasis at Lankenau Medical Research Center in Philadelphia. She has taught science and problem solving at the secondary, college, and graduate levels, both in the United States and abroad. Conn also has been a delegate to international conferences on physics education and a member of the Advisory Council for both the Mechanical Universe High School Adaptation (MUHSA) and the Comprehensive Conceptual Curriculum for Physics (C3P), two NSF-sponsored exemplary precollege physics curriculum projects.
Conn returned to student status to earn her J.D. degree at Widener University School of Law, Evening Division, while making the transition to public school administration. For the past eight years, she has been a K–12 curriculum supervisor in the West Chester Area School District.
Conn is the author of The Internet and the Law: What Educators Need to Know (ASCD, 2002) and numerous journal articles in the areas of science research, science education, and education law. She is a frequent presenter at local and national conferences of the National Science Teachers' Association, Technology Education Association, and the Education Law Association, and consults on issues of safety in the science classroom, teacher liability, and Internet issues in public schools. She has also presented papers at science and education conferences in Canada and Europe.
