Chapter 6. Be Enthusiastic and Enjoy What You Do
Teachers lucky enough to work with an energetic, enthusiastic principal certainly appreciate it. A positive outlook sustains the staff even in the most difficult times. Having colleagues with a positive attitude makes coming to work more enjoyable and fosters a climate where everyone is more productive. Just as negative energy can bog a school down, positive energy and enthusiasm for teaching enhance performance.
It's easy to lose energy and enthusiasm over time and slip into "been there, done that" mode. Even if you have been teaching for a long time, remember that the information you are sharing with your students is new for them. What we do becomes so habitual we can lose sight of the fact that we are opening up new horizons for young minds each and every school day. To fully engage your students, maintain your enthusiasm and make it clear that you enjoy what you do. What we do matters. Don't let the day-to-day minutiae dampen your enthusiasm for teaching.
