What an honor for a teacher to share the moment of joy when the light of awareness goes on in a student's eyes.
The start of my third year teaching 5th grade at Mt. View School was one that would change my life. Richard was assigned to my class. He was smaller in stature than most of the other boys, but a real fighter—he would back down from no one. Because Richard was often bored from being unable to do his assignment, he was also adept at getting into trouble. Classified as a nonreader, he had become one of those students passed on year to year because teachers did not want him in their classes.
