In addition to the recipients of the 2012 Outstanding Young Educator Awards (OYEA), ASCD selected three honorees who illustrate the ideals of the OYEA program. Meet the 2012 OYEA honorees!
Tiffany Anderson
Tiffany Anderson has been a public school administrator for 14 years. After successfully serving as one of the youngest administrators in Missouri, she began her role as a superintendent in Montgomery County Public Schools in Virginia. During her tenure in Montgomery County, all 20 schools in the district became accredited and the district was recognized under the Governors Competence to Excellence Award.
Anderson continues to lead districts as a superintendent in Missouri, where she has received the award of Distinction in Performance for exceeding Missouri state standards. Currently, Anderson is the superintendent for the Jennings School District in St. Louis. She is working on a new book on transforming schools for excellence.
Dan Kimberg
In 2006, while he was studying at Duke University, Dan Kimberg collaborated with the Durham community to create Student U, a year-round academic enrichment program for children in grades 5–12. After receiving a bachelor's degree in a major he designed—Advocating for Educational Reform in Policy and Practice—Kimberg became the inaugural executive director of Student U. Currently, Student U works with 300 students from the Durham Public Schools and their families, ensuring students gain the academic and personal skills needed to succeed in school and beyond.
In Durham, Kimberg serves as the chair of the board of the i4m educational program at Chewning Middle School, the cochair of the Culture and Morale committee at Neal Middle School, and the assistant soccer coach for Joy Charter School. He also teaches a Peer Education class at Durham Academy.
Catherine Ousselin
Originally from Rochester, Minnesota, Catherine Ousselin attended the University of Kansas where she finished a BA. and an MA. in French as well as a Graduate Certification in Education. Ousselin teaches at Mount Vernon High School in Washington.
