During its March meeting at Empower19 in Chicago, Ill., ASCD's Board of Directors elected Melanie Kay-Wyatt as President and Matthew Mingle as Vice President. Both will serve a one-year term beginning July 1.

Melanie Kay-Wyatt is the director of human resources for Spotsylvania County Schools in Fredericksburg, Va. She is a school leader with 23 years of experience in public schools. She describes herself as a lifelong learner and instructional leader committed to preparing every student for post-graduation success. Kay-Wyatt is an advocate for equity who believes a school community must be committed to meeting every student's academic and social-emotional needs every day with a focus on the whole child, particularly by offering highly engaging instruction.
Kay-Wyatt has served as a classroom teacher, assistant principal, principal, adjunct professor, and Virginia ASCD leader. She is the mother of two daughters, Billie and Temple.

Matthew Mingle is the superintendent of the Warren Township School District in New Jersey, a part-time lecturer in the Social and Philosophical Foundations of Education Department at the Rutgers University Graduate School of Education in New Brunswick, and immediate past president of New Jersey ASCD. Mingle presents at national and state-level conferences on whole child approaches to topics such as school safety and leadership.
Mingle was selected to the 2011 class of the ASCD Emerging Leaders program and has served ASCD in a variety of roles, including the Board of Directors Nominations Committee, the Whole Child Advisory Committee, the Affiliate Development Continuum Refresh Committee, and manuscript review committee. He credits his selection as an emerging leader as the catapulting moment for his career because he gained access to some of the leading thinkers in the landscape.

ASCD's membership has elected Patrice Dawkins-Jackson, director of the Post-Baccalaureate Fellowship and an associate at the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching; and Neil Gupta, director of secondary education for Worthington City Schools in Ohio, to serve one four-year term each on the ASCD Board of Directors beginning July 1, 2019.
