Technology in education is an essential array of tools that support and energize learning and teaching. It uses tools available to children in their daily lives; supports tasks that are purposeful, real-life applications of skills and understanding; and promotes work that requires problem solving, product development, and the creation of new knowledge.
Experts are constantly telling teachers that they need to integrate technology more effectively into instruction. But teachers themselves—drawing on their understanding of their students, their curriculum, and good pedagogy—are the ones who need to make decisions about how to use technology in their own classrooms.
From September 2015 through June 2018, master teacher, technology integration leader, and author Catlin Tucker explored practical, replicable strategies she used in her classroom to harness the power of technology for meaningful learning in this column in Educational Leadership magazine.
