ALEXANDRIA, VA—ASCD Statement on the Confirmation of Miguel Cardona as U.S. Secretary of Education by Ranjit Sidhu, ASCD CEO & Executive Director.

"On behalf of ASCD's 113,000 members, I want to congratulate Dr. Miguel Cardona on his confirmation as the new U.S. Secretary of Education. As a membership organization of professional educators, we are heartened that a fellow colleague with such an extensive and accomplished career is now leading the Department. Indeed, as a past ASCD member himself, we know that Dr. Cardona's diverse and informed experience gained at every level of the profession—classroom teacher, principal, superintendent, and state commissioner—will be invaluable as he oversees the federal resources that support our schools. His leadership is especially welcome as educators help our students, staff, and schools respond to, and recover from, the coronavirus pandemic.

We both appreciate and concur with the Senate's overwhelming bipartisan support for Dr. Cardona's nomination. It is well-deserved and speaks to Dr. Cardona's obvious passion for supporting all students and for the impressive outcomes that he achieved. Providing students with the holistic supports they need to be successful can and should be a bipartisan issue. We look forward to working with Dr. Cardona and the Department of Education to help make that a reality for every student in America."
