This book has taken us our entire careers to write. We have so many people to acknowledge. Early on, we were influenced by our colleagues interested in inclusive school practices for students with disabilities, especially the Florida Inclusion Network and Barbara Buswell of PEAK Parent Center (www.peakparent.org). In addition, we were privileged to learn alongside teachers in the City Heights Collaborative—Rosa Parks Elementary School, Monroe Clark Middle School, and Hoover High School—for nearly a decade. The collaborative allowed us to try out many of the ideas in this book with actual students and teachers. Of late, we have had the opportunity to work with two amazing educational systems: the Chula Vista Elementary School District, and specifically Dr. John Nelson, provided us with an opportunity to take these ideas to scale; and Health Sciences High and Middle College (HSHMC), our educational home, ensured that we keep it real on a daily basis. We thank both the teachers at HSHMC and the leadership team, especially Dr. Ian Pumpian and Sheri North, for providing daily experiences with an amazing collection of students.
