ASCD is saddened by the news of the passing of Ronald A. Wolk, founding editor-in-chief of Education Week and stalwart advocate for improving student achievement. Ron’s contributions to the field have shed light on the issues impacting schools, teachers, and students, and provided a springboard for educators to improve their practice and enhance student learning.
“With heavy hearts we say goodbye to Ron Wolk – a man who changed public understanding of the needs of educators and students,” says ASCD Executive Director Deb Delisle. “Ron leaves behind a legacy of educational thought leadership that will continue to influence efforts to improve our schools for years to come. His work will endure.”
ASCD had the honor of publishing Ron’s 2011 book, Wasting Minds, which pointed to the pressing need to improve the way we teach and lead to break the cycle of failure in our education system.
“We admired Ron’s commitment to education reform,” says ASCD Publisher Stefani Roth. “We are grateful for the insights and solutions he shared with readers, which remain relevant today as we strive to ensure that all students receive a high-quality education.”

The expert staff at ASCD has contributed to and developed many publications for educators over our 75+ year history.
