Charlotte Danielson is the founder and a board member of The Danielson Group. She began her career more than 50 years ago as a teacher in a 1st and 2nd grade classroom in Washington, DC. After 25 years as a teacher, curriculum director, staff development director, and assessment designer, she wrote the first edition of Enhancing Professional Practice. Danielson has published widely on the use of the Framework for Teaching and related aspects of the teaching profession and instructional practice.

A graduate of Cornell University (history), Oxford University (philosophy, politics, and economics) and Rutgers University (educational administration and supervision), she has taught kindergartners through university students and has worked as a curriculum director and staff development director.

Darlene Axtell is currently an independent consultant and member of the Danielson Group. Since 1997 she has been working with school districts across the United States, Canada, and abroad, helping them implement the framework for teaching into all areas of the school setting. Axtell has been a classroom teacher at the elementary and middle school levels, a school counselor at the middle school and high school levels, and a staff developer. In the administrative arena, she has been a supervisor of school counseling, coordinator of curriculum instruction and assessment, and principal of a middle school.

Paula Bevan is a national consultant with the Danielson Group who specializes in designing and implementing teacher and principal evaluation systems. She also trains evaluators to function in valid and reliable ways and provides external teacher observations and feedback to help schools improve teacher evaluation. An expert in the framework for teaching, Bevan offers a wide variety of training and consultation services related to it.

Bernadette Cleland is a member of the Danielson Group; a national trainer and consultant with ETS; and a consultant assisting numerous districts around the United States in developing evaluation systems, mentoring programs, and professional development based on the framework for teaching. She also delivers graduate-level courses for school districts using the framework as the focus of study. Cleland has taught English/language arts and social studies at the elementary, middle, high school, and post-secondary levels and was a middle school principal and high school associate principal in Vermont.

Candi McKay is an education consultant and member of the Danielson Group, providing professional development to school districts and state service agencies throughout the United States. She facilitates the design and implementation of teacher evaluation systems and professional learning plans that are customized to the needs of teachers at every stage of their careers. McKay works extensively with school leadership teams to enhance their skills in classroom observation, collegial conversation, and professional learning.
