Allen Dornseif Shares a Good Idea
The ASCD Annual Conference in Anaheim in March 2007 marked my 39th year with ASCD. Each year at ASCD [has] presented new opportunities for my professional growth. Early on, I remember a longtime ASCD member gave us newcomers a word of advice. He said that there are so many opportunities at an ASCD conference that many of us go home at the end with so many ideas and programs that, when confronted with the press of reality back home, too many of those ideas—if not all—get put on the back burner. He suggested that if we each took back one idea or program that would be good for kids in our district and school and made sure to implement that one idea, then the ASCD experience would have paid enormous dividends for education. If there is any piece of advice that I gained over 39 years in ASCD, that is the one that I would pass on. If each of the thousands of educators who attend ASCD's Annual Conference each year were to go home and implement just one of those good ideas they learned, it would change the educational world.
