ASCD's Board of Directors approved the formation of two new study groups: (1) the Leadership Council Study Group, charged with investigating ways to increase the Council's effectiveness, and (2) the Worldwide Influence Study Group, charged with reviewing ways in which members from a variety of countries can address advocacy and influence.

The Leadership Council affirmed four positions: (1) Health and Learning, (2) Multiple Measures of Assessment, (3) Closing the Achievement Gap, and (4) the Whole Child.
