ASCD is leading the charge to improve our high schools, assembling leading critical thinkers on secondary school reform to shape high schools for the 21st century and propose policy changes to improve student education.
ASCD's High School Reform (HSR) Advisory Committee is working to create the flexibility for all states to implement polices and programs that will improve the high school experience, reduce dropout rates, and foster better academic performance. The committee is discussing issues such as senior projects, personalized learning plans, student advocates, creation of a national assessment accreditation board, and alternative high school requirements and credits to improve student learning and better prepare students for the transition to work and college.
The HSR Advisory Committee met in August to finalize its recommendations. The culmination of this work will be legislation forming a national framework for a high school education system that reflects ASCD's values and beliefs.
