Located in the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, and East Asia, ASCD affiliates are separate education organizations that work collaboratively as part of the ASCD community to foster common values and goals essential to the way educators learn, teach, and lead. Affiliates influence education policy and provide a forum for the exchange of high-quality education practices.
ASCD affiliates are an excellent way to meet and learn with local educators in your region. Through affiliate membership, you have the opportunity to explore state and local education issues, hone your leadership skills, and participate in professional development opportunities.
Affiliate Recognition Awards
ASCD values the contributions of each affiliate toward advancing ASCD's mission. To honor ASCD affiliates' exemplary service to the education community, ASCD annually considers applications for Affiliate Recognition Awards. The 2013 awards were presented at the Leadership Appreciation Luncheon, during the 68th Annual Conference and Exhibit Show in Chicago.
Two affiliates received the Overall Excellence Award. This award is given to affiliates that exhibit the characteristics of an exemplary affiliate, which include using data and demonstrating an influence on education practice and policy within the local region while actively collaborating within the larger ASCD community. This year's Overall Excellence Awards were awarded to Iowa ASCD and New Hampshire ASCD.
The Programs, Products, and Services Area of Excellence Award recognizes affiliates that are seen as valued sources of professional development and timely information that promote opportunities for sustained work in learning communities. The winner of this year's award is New Jersey ASCD.
Exceptional Progress Awards recognize affiliates that have made significant progress along the Affiliate Development Continuum. This year, four awards were given. The Influence and Policy Exceptional Progress Award was awarded to Texas ASCD. Three affiliates won the Programs, Products, and Services Exceptional Progress Award: Alberta ASCD, Ohio ASCD, and Vermont ASCD.
