      • All schools should work in partnership with families and other community members to develop and implement character and citizenship education programs.
      • Alternative scheduling must be used to support student achievement and other goals of the school. Extending the school day and year, as well as alternative uses of time within the school day, provides for greater flexibility in organizing instructional programs and utilizing school facilities to meet the needs of all students.
Under ASCD's Issues process, the Board adopts no more than two positions each year, allowing the Association to focus its resources and energies. Action plans outlining what steps ASCD will take to support these new positions will be drafted this spring for Executive Council approval.
In other action at the Board of Directors meeting, the Board approved the addition of a new affiliate, Manitoba ASCD, bringing the total number of ASCD affiliates to 67.
