ASCD Community in Action

Share Your Winning Strategies in Education Update

There's no better way to approach a challenge than to learn from someone who's been in a similar situation. That's why we're launching "Road Tested," a new column in ASCD's member newsletter Education Update. Written by practitioners for practitioners, "Road Tested" provides educators with a platform to share tried and true strategies for learning, teaching, and leading. We welcome your original submissions of 500–600 words describing a challenge you faced in your school or district and the steps you took to overcome it. For more information, visit www.ascd.org/educationupdate.

Author Correction

Author Richard Rothstein has made the following correction to his article titled "Why Our Schools Are Segregated," which appeared in the May 2013 issue of Educational Leadership:
Desegregation efforts are impermissible if students are racially isolated not from government policy but because of societal discrimination, economic characteristics, or what Justice Clarence Thomas, in a concurring opinion, termed "any number of innocent private decisions, including voluntary housing choices." (p. 52)
