ASCD Names 2001 Annual Conference Speakers

      ASCD's Conference Planning Committee and Conference Director Robin McDougal have chosen the general session speakers for ASCD's 2001 Annual Conference, to be held March 17–19, 2001, in Boston, Mass.
      Mae C. Jemison, the first woman of color to travel into space—now a college professor and president of an advanced technology company—lectures widely on science literacy, achieving excellence, and the impoartnace of increased participation of women and minorities in science and technology.
      Harold S. Kushner—Rabbi Laureate of Temple Isreal in Natick, Mass., and author of When Bad Things Happen to Good People and How Good Do We Have to Be—speaks on topics including "The Soul's Hunger" and "A Religion for the 21st Century."
      Alvin Poussaint—author, psychiatrist, educator, and social critic—is an authority on race relations, the dynamics of prejudice, and diversity in the workplace. He is also a strong proponent of nonviolent parenting and parenting education.
