Faith Chapel

Position: Associate superintendent of curriculum and instruction, Bainbridge Island School District, Wash.

Career History and Highlights: Associate superintendent (2001-present); secondary school executive director (2000–01); high school principal (1995–2000); junior high school principal (1991–95); elementary school principal (1988–91); assistant principal (1986–88); elementary and middle school teacher (1975–1986).

Leadership with statelevel professional education organization; school received Spotlight on Success recognition for improvement in student literacy (2005).

David M. Mathis

Position: Assistant superintendent for instructional services, Edgefield County, S.C.

Career History and Highlights: Assistant superintendent for instruction (1999-present); elementary principal (1992–99); elementary/middle principal (1987–92); assistant principal (1984–87); middle school social studies teacher (1979–84); South Carolina Association of School Administrators: congressional representative, elementary division; secretary, elementary division; chairman, professional development, elementary division; chairman, Palmetto's Finest Awards; presenter, summer Leadership Institute. Jennifer Morrison

Position: Teacher trainer and curriculum writer for the North Carolina Teacher Academy; teacher consultant for the UNC-Charlotte Writing Project; currently teaching 8th grade language arts full time in a high-poverty, urban school in Charlotte, N.C.
Education: B.A., University of South Carolina; M.A., University of Canterbury, New Zealand (Fulbright scholar studying implementation of the National English Curriculum); National Board certification.
Career History and Highlights: I specialize in the teaching of reading and writing with nontraditional learners. As a new teacher, I played a significant role in my state's research and development team for portfolio assessment. I currently travel across the state providing professional development for public schools focused on a number of areas, including English language learners in the mainstream classroom and using data for school improvement. I present regularly at national conferences, including ASCD's recent Teaching and Learning Conference in Dallas, Tex., and my work has been published in Classroom Leadership.
ASCD Participation: In 2003 I was honored to receive ASCD's Outstanding Young Educator Award. I participated in the 2004 Affiliate Leadership Conference and walked the Hill as ASCD's representative on adopted positions regarding No Child Left Behind. I am currently working on the 2006 Conference Planning Committee.

Brian C. Yates

Position: Coprincipal, West Middlesex Jr.-Sr. High School, Grove City, Pa.
Education: B.S., Grove City College; M.Ed. and secondary school counselor certification, Westminster College; Ed.D. and assistant superintendent letter of eligibility, University of Pittsburgh.
Career History and Highlights: Science teacher, grades 7 and 8; high school guidance counselor; college professor; high school principal. Facilitator, Project WILD (land-based environmental issues); Project WET; Project Food, Land, and People; and Project Learning Tree. Current member of Pennsylvania School Counselor Association; Safari Club International Wilderness Leadership School graduate in 2004; Association of Christian Schools International regional conference presenter (2004).
