Urban sociologist and New York University professor Pedro Noguera and Economic Policy Institute research associate Richard Rothstein will be the general session speakers.
Noguera will discuss why raising test scores isn't enough to close the achievement gap and will address the need for a more holistic approach to educating children, one that creates conditions that promote child development and raise achievement.
At the closing general session, Rothstein will delve into how schools can work with other public institutions to improve children's health, intellectual culture, and preparation for school.
