ASCD is saddened to announce the death of Arthur ("Wells") Foshay, a longtime supporter of ASCD. Foshay earned his doctorate at Teachers College, Columbia University, where, in 1946, he became assistant principal of the famous Horace Mann-Lincoln School. In the 1950s, he directed the Bureau of Educational Research at Ohio State University. In 1968, he became a professor of curriculum and teaching at Teachers College, retiring in 1976.
Foshay served as president of ASCD in 1960-61, and he was a frequent contributor to ASCD's Journal of Curriculum and Supervision. During his long career, Foshay wrote several books and hundreds of journal articles. His last book, The Curriculum: Purpose, Substance, Practice, is scheduled to be published by Teachers College Press early in 1999. Foshay died on April 28, 1998. He was 85.
