ASCD is saddened to announce the death of Arthur Combs, who served as ASCD President in 1966–67. A prominent teacher, consultant, and psychologist, Combs invented perceptual–experiential psychology, a systematic frame of reference for the study of persons. Combs was the editor of ASCD's landmark 1962 Yearbook, Perceiving, Behaving, Becoming: A New Focus for Education. One of his last books, On Becoming a School Leader: A Person-Centered Challenge, was published this year by ASCD. Combs died on March 21, 1999, at the age of 86.
