More than 8,500 ASCD members returned the Issues Survey mailed last fall. Among the highest rated topics were outcome-based education, school finance, interdisciplinary curriculum, performance assessment, teacher certification, and full inclusion.
ASCD's Transition Issues Committee will report the survey results, and its recommendations regarding possible positions, to the Board of Directors. At ASCD's Annual Conference in Chicago, March 19–22, there will be three ASCD Town Meetings on the issues, open to all Conference-goers. Later in the Conference, the Board will hold an extended meeting to debate and vote on the issues. Action plans will then be developed based on ASCD's new positions.
ASCD thanks all those who made sure their voices were heard by returning completed surveys—and also those who participated in the process of securing member and affiliate input on the issues.

EL’s experienced team of writers and editors produces Educational Leadership magazine, an award-winning publication that reaches hundreds of thousands of K-12 educators and leaders each year. Our work directly supports the mission of ASCD: To empower educators to achieve excellence in learning, teaching, and leading so that every child is healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged.
