Based on input from more than 3,000 ASCD members who completed and returned their issues survey, the Issues Committee has identified the following concerns as potential targets of ASCD action plans in 1998: Knowing the Learner: Making Education Personal; Assessment: Uses and Misues; Attacking Poverty in Education; Becoming a Whole Society: Improving Attitudes Toward Our Differences; and Living in a Global Society.
The Committee will submit its recommendations for possible positions to the Board of Directors at ASCD's Annual Conference in San Antonio, Tex., March 21-24. Four town meetings will allow members in attendance to debate these issues, before the Board votes to adopt one or two of them for action. Copies of the proposed positions, with background information, will be mailed with Conference Program books and will be available at the town meetings as well.

EL’s experienced team of writers and editors produces Educational Leadership magazine, an award-winning publication that reaches hundreds of thousands of K-12 educators and leaders each year. Our work directly supports the mission of ASCD: To empower educators to achieve excellence in learning, teaching, and leading so that every child is healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged.
