ASCD recently upgradedits School ImprovementTool to align with theWhole School, Whole Child,Whole Community (WSCC)model. This free tool, designed forschool and district use, providesintroductory assessments of the 10new WSCC school health componentsand offers scores for the wholechild tenets, indicators, and schoolimprovement processes.
The WSCC model, launched in March2014 by ASCD and the U.S. Centers for DiseaseControl and Prevention (CDC), set in motion a newapproach to formalizing the collaboration betweenlearning and health. Colorado, Kentucky, Mississippi, Ohio,and Oregon are among a number of states actively lookingto the model to help them align their policies, processes,and practices across education and health. Meanwhile, keydistricts, including Denver Public Schools, Pittsburgh PublicSchools, and the Pasadena IndependentSchool District, have already adoptedthe model.
